Why are books being burned?
Books are being burned due to the fact that they make people think. They make people come up with ideas and they make people question other peoples actions. In this futuristic society, the government wants to control everyone and have no one question them and their actions. They want people to be brainwashed into thinking that books are evil and that technology is good. That you don't need to drive slowly and admire the country but that you can race through life and it won't matter. Books are being burned because they interfere with the governments actions and make people act out.
Clarisse McClellan, why is she important?
Clarisse is Montag's threshold, she's the one to push him off the edge into his defiance of rules. Without her, the story would never have taken place. She's fresh, new, she has a free mind that hasn't been suppressed by the government yet. She's special. She should've been "nipped right in the bud", but they missed her. Clarisse, a single girl, managed to unthinkingly create the government's biggest fear, their biggest enemy. It's because of people like Clarisse, Montag, Faber, and the men in the woods that people are afraid of books.
Why does the group in the forest want to bring back books?
The group of intellectuals in the forest want to bring back books because they feel the world isn't educated enough. The civilization doesn't read books and the groups feels like they are locked away from a whole world, the world of books and imagination. Imagination is an important part of society. The people do not think for themselves, something they could learn from books, they are like mindless drones. They want to bring books back to the people so they can be educated, have imagination and creativity, and they want them to know the world of knowledge and books.
